Joyce Tarter Rideout is a native Californian, a graduate of
Santa Cruz High, and Monterey Peninsula College. She continued her education at Montana State University in
Bozeman as an art major. She returned to California and received a BA in Education at Chico State University.
She taught elementary school in Chico, raised two sons before returning to Santa Cruz with her granddaughter.
Joyce started her sports photography career by following her nephew Tim Bright, a three time Olympian, around
the world shooting photos of the decathlon and pole vault events he competed in. For the past 17 years, she has
been the official photographer for the $75,000 Comerica Bank Challenger in Seascape, CA where she resides. Her
photos of the top tennis players of the world have appeared on posters, in programs, magazines, and news papers.
Her passion for travel photography began as a host on cruise ships for American Express Travel over a dozen years
ago. She joined the Carmel Foundation in 1997 where she was taught many of the skills she uses to manipulate photos.
The unique travel photos in this collection were recently on display in Carmel. She has a display of tennis photos
at the Seascape Sports Club.
